Rubavu Technical College TSS Marks 31st Genocide Commemoration: Empowering Youth to Stand Against Ideology Through Education
On May 16th, 2025, Rubavu Technical College TSS joined the rest of the country in marking the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This solemn occasion served as a moment of reflection, remembrance, and renewed commitment to the values of unity and peace. The event brought together students, staff, and invited guests, with Mr. Niyonzima Philippe, Sector Education Inspector of Nyundo, as the main guest of honor. His presence highlighted the role of the education sector in sustaining the memory of the genocide and nurturing a generation that stands for truth and reconciliation.
In his powerful address, Mr. Niyonzima urged the youth to be vigilant against the spread of genocide ideology and any form of divisionism. He emphasized that the fight against such dangerous beliefs begins with education, discipline, and purpose. “As young people, if you live without direction or goals, it becomes easy for others to mislead you,” he cautioned. He called on the students to study with determination and contribute positively to the society, reminding them that their commitment to learning is a strong weapon against ignorance and hatred.
The theme of the day was deeply felt as students participated in poetry, testimony sharing, and the symbolic lighting of the “Light of Hope” — a gesture that reaffirmed their dedication to peace and unity. Rubavu Technical College TSS continues to play a vital role not only in technical training but also in instilling national values among the youth. As the college remembered for the 31st time, it stood as a testament to resilience and a bright future rooted in remembrance, unity, and progress.

He reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the values of Rubavu Technical College and ensuring that students continue to thrive in a supportive and disciplined learning environment. His leadership is expected to strengthen the institution’s mission and inspire continued growth.
