Background and History

Rubavu Technical College (RTC), formerly known as the School of Hotel Business & Tourism, was established in January 2014 with a strong focus on vocational education in the hospitality sector. At its inception, the school offered two trades: Tourism and Hotel Operations, and started with a small but dedicated team comprising a School Manager, Director of Studies, Bursar, Accountant-Secretary, Patron, and Matron, supported by five teachers and serving 64 students. As demand for technical education increased across the region, the school responded by expanding its academic offerings. In January 2017, five additional trades were introduced: Telecommunication, Electronic Services, Road Construction, Masonry, and Automotive Technology. This significant growth necessitated a rebranding of the institution.

In June 2018, the school was officially recognized under its new name — Rubavu Technical College (RTC) — a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution committed to providing hands-on skills and fostering innovation. Today, RTC proudly serves 425 students guided by a team of 16 qualified and passionate teachers. The college continues to grow, aiming to become a center of excellence in technical and vocational training in Rwanda and beyond.

Our Mission

To equip Rwandan youth with competitive, industry-aligned technical skills that meet the evolving demands of the labor market. Through high-quality training, innovation-driven education, and strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, we aim to empower young people to become not only skilled professionals but also leaders and changemakers in their communities. By fostering a culture of excellence and lifelong learning, we seek to strengthen technical capacity across Rwanda and contribute significantly to socio-economic growth and regional integration within the Great Lakes region.

Our Achievements

Since its establishment, Rubavu Technical College has continuously empowered students with practical skills that translate into real-life opportunities. As a result: Graduates secure employment in both the public and private sectors across Rwanda and beyond. Many students successfully transition to higher education, enrolling in universities and advanced training institutions to further their careers. A growing number of alumni are creating their own businesses, becoming job creators through innovative entrepreneurship in fields like construction, hospitality, ICT, and more. These outcomes reflect RTC’s commitment to excellence in technical and vocational training, and its role in shaping self-reliant, skilled, and visionary citizens.
