The word telecommunication is a compound of Greek prefix TELE “meaning distant” and the Latin communicare “meaning to share”

Telecommunication is the transmission of signals, messages, words, writing, images and sounds or information of any nature by wire, radio, optical or other electromagnetic systems.

Telecommunication occurs when the exchange of information between communication participants includes the use of technology. It is transmitted through a transmission media, such as over physical media, for example, over electrical and optical cables or via electromagnetic radiation through space such as Radio or Light.


The studies in this department presents a coherent and significant set of competencies to acquire to perform the occupation of a Telecom tower technician / Telecom rigger / Radio broacasting station operator / Fiber optics technician / TV antenna technician.


Modules provided to the trainees are 30 % theoretical and 70 % practical lessons

Trainees use the Classrooms during the Theoretical learning and Workshops during the Practical learning, the flowchart during the Training should be respected such that the sequencing of learning is a schematic representation of the order of acquisition of the competencies. Where it provides an overall planning of the entire training program and shows the relationship between the modules. This type of planning is to ensure consistency and progression of learning. For each module, the flowchart shows the learning that is already in place, the learning that is to take in parallel or later. The positions defined will have a decisive impact on all subsequent pedagogical choices. And for each end of module, trainees should perform assessment Methodology in order to assess knowledge, practical, and application skills through a jury system of continuous evaluation that encourages learners to display understanding of the principles in application to set practical tasks and their attendant theory to assess self-learning.

Learners, for every trimester they do a study Trip program and for every Year they do Industrial Attachment program (IAP) in the workplace or industry in order to put the practical thought in theory. 

At the end of the qualification, qualified learners will be able to integrate individually  the technical services sector with the professionalization of Telecommunication workers; this qualification again offers the opportunity to execute the works as Domestic electrical circuit Technician, telecom tower equipment installer and maintainer (Telecom tower technician and Telecom Rigger),TV/Radio broadcasting station equipment installer, maintainer and operator and (TV/Radio broadcasting station operator , fiber optic network installer and maintainer ( Fiber optics Technician), Reception antenna and signal distribution equipment assembler and installer ( TV antenna Technician) , RF network and Microwave link installer and Broadcasting transmission technician and GSM transmission technician (Telecom transmission technician) in Telecom and TV/Radio broadcasting equipment installation and maintenance fields, and ensure that safety and security regulations are respected.


October 04, 2019 – RUBAVU TECHNICAL COLLEGE TVET students in Telecommunication and Electronics trade had a visit to ROYAL FM radio station. Students were taken on a radio station visit where they were briefed on how recordings are done at radio stations and various programmes are presented on air.


The students got an opportunity to interact with the broadcast journalists ,technical staff and learnt about the work atmosphere and various functional areas like recording and broadcasting events, interviewing great personalities and other major operations of the radio station. 

The visit lasted for couple of hours but the kind of influence it left upon the students is irreversible. Immediately after this visit, a short report preparation on this visit was conducted by the teachers of RTC TVET to understand the benefits students got recently. The result was humongous. Every student that visited the radio station as a student of RTC TVET came up with highly effective and impressive creative report.


The last session of the visit was very interactive where  students got an opportunity to have a discussion with the Radio Producers, Program Executive, Radio Presenter and Audience Research Officer and they all interacted with the students on the quality standards of radio programs.  


A complete knowledge about functioning of radio stations made this visit very knowledgeable experience for all the students of RUBAVU TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
